This shore excursion is a wonderful way to experience all of the city's "must-see" monuments while maximizing the short amount of time that you have especially for those who need to get back to the port by early evening!
On this tour, you will explore the majestic and impressive remains of the world’s largest ancient empire as your guide takes you inside the Colosseum and ancient Roman Forum bringing to life the sights and sounds that filled these areas two millennia ago. In the Colosseum, you will overlook the arena where gladiators fought for centuries and in the Forum you will walk the square where Julius Caesar, Cicero and Augustus gave their famous speeches. Your feet will touch the stones along the Via Sacra which still preserve the signs of carriage wheels from 2,000 years ago.
Our guide will take you to the Vatican Museums where many of the most famous works of art in the world reside, including the Sistine Chapel. You will be overwhelmed by the awe-inspiring creations of Michelangelo, the man who single-handedly changed the future of art forever, and by the fantastic frescos of his rival Raphael. The Vatican Museums are not only home to these most famous Renaissance-era works but also the location of some of the most exquisite Roman and Greek statues in the world, such as the Laocoon. At the conclusion of your tour of the Vatican, you will enter the biggest basilica in the world, where you will follow the touching story of St. Peter and the evolution of Christianity.
During the day, you will explore some of the most beautiful piazzas and fountains, including Piazza di Spagna (with its famous Spanish Steps) and Piazza della Rotonda, dominated by the gigantic Pantheon, the best preserved building from antiquity. You will take a moment at the Trevi Fountain with her infinite feast of water and finally conclude at Bernini’s Four Rivers fountain in Piazza Navona.
Important Note: Backpacks, rucksacks, large personal bags and luggage are banned inside the Colosseum, Palatine Hill and Roman Forum.
This tour is provided on a reserved basis prior to departure. Passengers must contact the local sightseeing company upon arrival to reconfirm their tour.

Approximately 10 hours (3 hours travel time + 6 hour tour + 1 hour lunch)
Meeting point:
You will be picked up at the Civitavecchia Port by your driver, who will be holding a sign with your name on it as you disembark your ship.

Departures:
7:30am daily, except Sundays. We usually arrange pick-up at 7:30AM and you will be back in port for no later than 6:00PM, in good time for sailing. The time of pick-up and drop-off will be adjusted according to your ship's docking and sailing times.
