The Danube Valley between Krems and Melk, known as the Wachau, is as scenic and romantic as Austria gets with famous white wines, castle ruins, charming towns surrounded by steep vineyards and last but not least, the glorious Melk Abbey.
Explore the UNESCO town of Dürnstein or hike up to the castle ruins where King Richard the Lionhearted was once imprisoned. Enjoy 2 Wine Tastings of varieties only found in the Wachau region at local family owned wineries (Steinfeder, Federspiel & Smaragd). Sample local specialties such as schnapps and apricot brandy, then lunch in Weissenkirchen at a typical Wachau wine tavern (included). Next is a 1 hour guided tour of Melk Abbey. Explore country villages and back roads that other tours simply cannot reach, and learn about the region’s fascinating history and culture from friendly, expert guide/driver.
