Small Group: Venice and the Orient
Centuries of trade and cultural exchange shaped Venice into a crossroads between East and West, and this guided walking tour reveals that layered heritage. The experience begins near Campo San Bortolomio by the Rialto Bridge, where a historic market once echoed the atmosphere of Middle Eastern souks. From there, the route leads to Campiello del Milion, the former site of Marco Polo’s home and the symbolic starting point of his legendary journey eastward.
Continuing toward the Cannaregio district, participants pass the Church of the Abbazia della Misericordia and Madonna dell’Orto, closely tied to the life and work of Tintoretto. The walk highlights architectural and cultural traces of Venice’s eastern connections, including the Palazzo del Cammello and the statues of the Moors. The tour concludes in the historic Jewish Ghetto, the oldest in the world still inhabited today, offering a powerful glimpse into one of Venice’s most evocative and enduring neighborhoods.
