Shared Tour: Guided excursion to Mount Etna and Alcantara Gorges from Taormina
Rising 3,357 meters above eastern Sicily, Mount Etna is Europe's tallest active volcano, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of lava fields, ancient pine forests, and geological wonders that demand to be experienced firsthand. This shared full day excursion from Taormina begins with hotel pickup before heading first to the spectacular Alcantara Gorges, where a dramatic basalt canyon carved by millennia of volcanic lava and river water sets the tone for a day of extraordinary natural discovery. The journey then ascends to Etna's slopes, where guests choose between a more accessible trail winding through ancient pine forests or a more challenging path leading toward the volcano's active craters. A helmet and flashlight unlock exploration of a volcanic lava cave, revealing ancient tunnels formed by centuries of eruptions. After the hike, guests gather for an optional lunch at a mountain chalet with sweeping volcanic panoramas all around.
