Discover Budapest's Jewish Heritage: Private Walking Tour
Hidden within Budapest's 7th District, Erzsébetváros holds centuries of Jewish culture, resilience, and revival across its streets, courtyards, and synagogues. This private half-day walking tour offers an intimate exploration of one of Central Europe's most historically significant Jewish communities, with a knowledgeable local expert revealing its layers at every turn. The centerpiece of the tour is the Dohány Street Synagogue, a breathtaking Moorish Revival masterpiece dating from 1859 and the largest synagogue in Europe, capable of holding over 3,000 worshippers. Adjacent to it, the Jewish Museum traces the history of Hungary's Jewish community through art and artifacts. In the serene Raoul Wallenberg Memorial Park, the iconic Tree of Life sculpture honors thousands of Holocaust victims. The tour also explores the Rumbach Street Synagogue, the Kazinczy Street Orthodox Synagogue, and the Gozsdu Passage, before concluding at the Shoes on the Danube Bank, a deeply moving riverside memorial honoring Jews massacred during World War II.
