Private Hike Via Francigena (from La Villa to Monteriggioni) from Chianti
Rolling countryside and centuries of history unfold on this guided hike along the legendary Via Francigena, one of Europe’s most important pilgrimage routes. Setting out near La Villa outside Siena, participants follow ancient paths once traveled by pilgrims, merchants, and explorers. The route passes La Chiocciola Castle, part of a historic agricultural estate known for its Chianti Putto wines, before continuing through open fields, wooded trails, and quiet country roads.
Along the way, churches and shrines dedicated to Saint Francis appear amid vineyards and olive groves, while wildflowers and poppies line the trail in season. Forest paths reveal glimpses of old fortifications and archaeological remains, including traces of Roman baths and Etruscan burial sites. The walk concludes at Monteriggioni, a beautifully preserved walled town crowned with medieval towers. After time to admire the village, return transport is provided back to the hotel in Chianti.
